Professional Selection of Karaoke Song Choices During Events and Contests – Music For All Ages

February 10th, 2010

If you are considering running your own Karaoke business then you must consider yourself a professional. Perhaps you have got all your equipment, now its just a matter of getting your karaoke music.

Your first inclination will be to run out and buy all your favorites. I mean they are your favorites so everyone must love them as well right? Well not really. You are going to have to broaden your thinking when it comes to choosing your karaoke music. You can take some of the guess work out of this if you have some type of business marketing plan.

You need to determine what is your target market is going to be. In other words who is going to use your services. What type of functions do you want to cater to. If you are in this to make money ,then you are probably thinking that you will cater to whoever wants you. That’s fine, just be prepared in your choice of karaoke music so you don’t end up bombing out at an event. Remember you may be hired for a karaoke party at a seniors club, and not do so well. Then there you find out someone was there that was thinking of having a karaoke night, for their bowling banquet. You will probably not be their choice because of the way this event is going. However, on the other hand if you had had the right choice of music, it would have gone much smoother. Word of mouth is going to be your best advertisement, in more ways than one.

You may not have a budget that is going to let you go out and fully stock up on every category of karaoke music there is, in the beginning. So start listing what are the most likely events that will use your services first. Only you will know this for sure but here are some possibilities.

-Karaoke bars
-Karaoke Parties
-Birthday parties
-Wedding showers
-Family get togethers
-Club events
-Weddings
-Seniors clubs
-Children’s birthday parties

No doubt you will add to the list. Also there are several on the list that you most likely will do only on a rare occasion. So start organizing the list, from more probably down to least likely.
Now figure out what your music budget is going to be. Take

Beastie Boys Biography and Top 10 Songs

February 7th, 2010

One of my first memories of hip-hop and rap was the Beastie Boys song “(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party!)” on the radio while I was still at school. I remember saving all my money just to buy the album Licensed To Ill and I now rate it one of my top 50 albums of all time. At the time I was listening to a lot of chart music and “oldies” but the Beastie Boys helped to change my musical tastes and now hip-hop and rap is probably my favourite genre.

The Beastie Boys originated in New York, USA and consisted of Michael Diamond (Mike D), Adam Yauch (MCA), John Berry and Kate Schellenbach. There have been many contributors since then, the most popular being Adam Horovitz (Ad-Rock), Michael Schwartz (Mix Master Mike), and Wendell Fite (DJ Hurricane). The name Beastie was thought to stand for “Boys Entering Anarchistic States Towards Internal Excellence” but in a report with Mike D he said that this happened after they had come up with the name. In the early days the group were support acts for bands like The Misfits, Reagan Youth, Bas Brains and The Dead Kennedys.

In 1983 John Berry left and was replaced by Ad-Rock, soon after the Beastie Boys signed to Def Jam and released the EP Rock Hard in 1984. Not long after Kelly left the band and it is said that it was a result of their manager thinking she didn’t fit the bands rap image. In 1985 the Beastie Boys opened for Public Image Ltd. (Johnny Rotten from the Sex Pistols new band),they also supported Madonna on her “Virgin” tour and on the Raising Hell tour with Run DMC.

The debut album Licensed To Ill was released in 1986 and is reported as the best selling Rap album of the 1980’s and the first Rap album to goto #1 on the Billboard album chart. The album stayed at the top of the chart for five weeks and sold over 5 million copies. Paul’s Boutique was released in 1989 after they signed with Capitol Records and is considered a landmark for hip-hop recordings due to its use of multi-layering and sampling techniques. Rolling Stone Magazine described the album as “the Pet Sounds/Dark Side of the Moon of hip hop.” and it went on to sell over a million copies.

Check Your Head was released in 1992 after yet another change in label to Grand Royal Records (their own label) and the band played all the instruments themselves. The album went double platinum in the US. It is said in the Oxford English Dictionary that the Beastie Boys created the haircut term called the Mullet in the song Mullet Head in 1994.

When Ill Communication was released in 1994 it went straight into the US chart at #1, soon after, the Beastie Boys headlined at Lollapalooza (an American music festival) alongside The Smashing Pumpkins. They also went on a tour to raise awareness for The Milarepa Fund which deal with Tibetan human rights and Adam Yauch organised the Tibetan Freedom Concert which saw over 100,000 people through the gates of Golden Gate Park in San Francisco in 1996.

Aglio e Olio was released in 1995 and resembled a more punk style than that usually associated with their Rap style. The In Sound From Way Out! was released in 1996 and was an instrumental album consisting of jazz/funk beats.

Hello Nasty saw a new shift in the Beastie Boys music when DJ Hurricane was replaced by Mix Master Mike. The album was released in 1998 and went straight into the US chart at #1 and sold over 690,000 sales in the first week alone. The album also went into the #1 slot in UK, Australia, Germany, The Netherlands, New Zealand, and Sweden.

When To The 5 Boroughs was released in 2004 it was the first of their albums to be completely produced by themselves and reached #1 in the US chart and the single “Ch-Check It Out” was #2 on the world internet download chart. There was some controversy when the album was released as some people claimed the CD installed spyware when played on a PC but these allegations were settled as it was only copy protection software which only appeared on European copies.

Beastie Boys released The Mix Up in 2007 and prior to its release some tracks were leaked onto the internet and it was thought that the album would be purely instrumental but when the album was actually released it was soon discovered that it was just a myth.

The Beastie Boys are currently producing a new album.

My Top 10 Beastie Boys Songs are:

MySpace Music – Killer MySpace Marketing For Artists

December 26th, 2009

Since MySpace Music came into existence it has increasingly become an incredibly important marketing tool for musicians. I’m sure by now the majority of you reading this article know the basics and functions of MySpace Music – let’s get to how you as a musician can get the most out of the networking website.

No matter your genre you can use MySpace Music as a platform to get your music heard. Create a MySpace Band Profile and begin uploading your music. Once you have selected some of your best material you would like to present, make sure you upload some pictures of yourself or your band.

Add Friends – Not Just Anyone!

Don’t rush to get your music heard by as many people as possible. What you are trying to do is develop a solid fan base that will consistently visit your MySpace Music page. Make sure your not just sending out random friend requests. Initially you should target individuals who maybe share similar music tastes. Maybe their profile song is a band that has a similar sound or is in a similar genre that your band is in. Target individuals in cities that your upcoming shows are located in!

Always keep your fans updated!

Once you have established a solid amount of friends and consistent visitors, make sure you keep your fans updated. You don’t want your friends to lose interest in you, so stay on top of your game! Make sure you add value to your page to keep the visitor coming back. Keep your tour dates and upcoming shows up to date. Upload videos such as performances and music videos through both MySpace Music and Youtube. Brainstorm some creative ideas for videos you can upload. Show something on a little more personal side such as you or your band joking around or recording in the studio. This helps create a special connection between you and your visitors. You should also allow your songs to be added to visitor’s profiles. Your music may in turn spark interest in someone visiting their profiles.

Customizable Profile

When creating a band page it is important to present yourself in a professional manner and this is where customizing your MySpace Music profile comes in handy. Your MySpace Band Page is easily customizable. If you are not too familiar with HTML than maybe you should do a quick Google search for some basic HTML codes such as background color changes or other layout elements. If you do not wish to customize every aspect of your page yourself, nowadays there are websites all over the web that offer FREE MySpace Layouts or templates. All you need to do is copy and paste the HTML code of the layout offered at these websites into your MySpace Bio. Make sure there is a consistent color theme throughout your Profile. Keep your page easy on the eyes and match your Profile colors with photos of you or your band.

Comments

MySpace Comments are very significant when promoting yourself on MySpace Music. As soon as someone adds you as a friend or accepts your friend requests make sure you comment their profile page with a special thank you. Use their name directly so that it feels more personal and make them aware that you will be frequently updating your page and that they should check back. You may even want to create a small graphic to post in their comments so that your post is more visually engaging. Those visiting their profiles may come across your comment and check out your page out of curiosity.

MySpace Blogs & Bulletins

Blogging on MySpace is yet another vital feature that can be used as a promotional tool for you or your band. These blogs can sometimes be personal, letting your visitors know what you did that day or journaling significant events that you’ve been through as an artist. However you can also use your blog as a news update for your visitors. Make your visitors aware of upcoming shows or events. Make sure your blog titles are eye-catching! When promoting yourself on MySpace Music you should also consider the Bulletin feature. You should send out bulletins to your friends list making them aware of upcoming shows, newly uploaded videos/music, and other important and news surrounding you or your band. However be careful not to abuse this feature! Too many posts too soon can have the opposite effect you are going for when attracting visitors to your page.

PROMOTE!

After you have a successfully running MySpace Music page don’t forget to promote it as much as possible! At the end of your gigs make sure to remind your audience of the name of your MySpace page. Let them know that it is on your page where they can find more information about your band. Include your MySpace address on any outside promotional tool such as business cards, t-shirts, or demo CD’s.

GTA San Andreas Soundtrack

December 13th, 2009

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is the award-winning video game from Rockstar, set in the early 1990’s on the West Coast of the USA, in a fictional state known as San Andreas. This state is made up of three large cities, each heavily influenced by real places. For example, one city is very similar to that of Las Vegas, while another is like San Francisco.

Grant Theft Auto games are famous for their soundtracks, which are often completely in-tune with the era, and the morals and social conventions of the time (as we saw in GTA: Vice City). Because of the time that this game is set in, it is filled with songs from the early 90’s, as well as a few golden oldies. These tracks are spread out over a number of different radio stations; each with their own style of music.

Some of the highlights from the GTA San Andreas soundtrack include Toto’s “Hold the Line”, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Free Bird”, Public Enemy’s “Rebel Without A Pause”, N.W.A’s “Express Yourself”, Guns N’ Roses’ “Welcome to the Jungle”, Rage Against the Machine’s “Killing in the Name”, The Stone Roses’ “Fools Gold” and Depeche Mode’s “Personal Jesus”.

An official GTA San Andreas soundtrack was released on November 23rd 2004 worldwide, and has become a commercial success. The GTA San Andreas soundtrack has now become a legendary piece of work that captured an entire generation in a few, simple songs. Those that remember most of the music of the era will be taken back to it, and be drawn instantly into the game.

Karaoke Music and Songs

October 28th, 2009

In Karaoke, amateurs sing into a microphone, to recorded music, while reading lyrics displayed on a video screen, generally for the purpose of personal entertainment and pleasure. It is held on a public address system like other shows but does not stage professionals and is largely informal in nature. Karaoke music is usually the famous pop music of the time and the actual singer’s voice is toned down to make the Karaoke singer heard.

Karaoke music and songs originate from Japan, where is part of their culture to entertain through music and songs at dinner. South Korea and Japan abound in Karaoke clubs where Karaoke music and songs are very common and these have now widely spread over the years, to Asian and American regions.

With the great acceptance and liking for Karaoke music and songs, Karaoke machines to keep inside houses were soon launched, but these failed to capture markets in the U.S. and Canada. Soon after this, karaoke machines were not being sold strictly for the purpose of karaoke anymore, but as home theater systems to give theater like sound quality at home. Home theater systems soon replaced karaoke, which from having been the main purpose of the stereo system, became one of its side features.

Many low priced entertainment systems with a Karaoke mode are now available for those who wish to hold a Karaoke party at home. Center removal is a method through which the vocals are removed from songs for Karaoke purposes.

Karaoke is now widespread all over the world and enjoyed by many. It is a great unwinding and entertainment process since it is such an informal genre of music.
